CUSTOM COMPOSITE TOOLS

Modern composites encompass a wide range of material combinations, and machining them efficiently and economically – in a single pass, with no rework – can be challenging. Whether you’re cutting Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP), syntactic foams, honeycomb panels, or other multi-layered composites, machining success depends on the synergy of a tool engineered specifically for the application.

That means a deep understanding of the material itself (thickness, exact composition, layer structure), the required operation (sizing, through-cutting, grooving, step-cutting, drilling, counterboring, etc.), and the machining environment – including machine type, maximum feed rates, spindle speed, and clamping system – to maximize productivity and cut quality.

At GDP Tooling, we draw on over 40 years of diamond tooling expertise, working closely with our engineering partners to deliver solutions that don’t just meet the challenge – but often exceed it. All custom tools are backed by a performance-based satisfaction guarantee.

Our facility also provides routine PCD sharpening services with a one-week turnaround, helping extend tool life and control costs.

Description

Modern composites encompass a wide range of material combinations and machining them efficiently and economically in a single pass with no rework can present a challenge! Whether Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer (FRP), Syntactic Foams, Honeycomb panels and other multi-layered panels, the machining success relies on the synergy of a cutting tool designed with the application’s particular machining parameters in mind.
This includes a thorough understanding of the material itself (thickness, exact composition, layers), the intended cut dimensions (sizing, through cutting, grooving, step cut, drilling, counterboring etc), the machine type, its maximum feed speed and rpm to maximize productivity and tool life, as well as clamping system in use.

At GDP, we have over 35 years of diamond tooling expertise to draw from, and we collaborate with an engineering team to deliver solutions that not only meet the challenge, but often exceed it! In addition, our tools all come with a satisfaction guaranteed performance warranty!

Our facility provides sharpening of all PCD tools with a one week turnaround!
