Insert Deep Pocket Bit

Lock Recess and Deep Pocket Mortise Bit

Deep Pocket (Lock Mortise) Bit

Our insert deep pocket mortise bit is made of a special high quality steel grade to route deep lock mortise cut-outs without the tool experiencing any tool deflection.  Excellent for door hardware and other deep pocket cut applications. This tool uses two offset chipbreaker insert knives that have a 16mm cut length (5/8″). The recommended machining parameters are to run this tool between 12,000 -18,000 rpm at a feed rate of 12m/minute with 8-10mm passes in hardwood, and 15mm passes in particleboard.

Replacement inserts for the Insert Deep Pocket Bit guarantee a constant cutting diameter and help reduce machine downtime for tool changes as the inserts make changing them out a breeze. For best possible performance, this tool should be ordered on an HSK heat shrink tool holder if the machine, it will be used on, has an HSK tool interface. The reason is simple: The longer the tool, the more deflection it will experience at the bottom, i.e. the furthest point from the clamping source. If there is any “sloppiness” in the tool holder assembly, whether it’s a worn collet, a poor quality collet nut or an unbalanced tool holder, it will reflect in the finish quality and tool life. Eliminate any possible problems with an HSK Heat shrink holder which guarantees a runout tolerance of .003mm or better!

Diameters available are 14, (.55″), 16mm (.62”) and 18mm (.70”).
