- Performance Guarantee
- Price Match Promise
Custom PCD cutting tools are engineered around the specific application, material and production requirements when standard tooling cannot provide the geometry, performance or tool life required. Whether the challenge involves a unique profile, unusual machining parameters, demanding production requirements or achieving an optimum finish in a specialty material, GDP Tooling develops application-specific PCD solutions.
Custom tools can be designed for profiling, trimming, grooving, jointing, sizing, routing and combination machining operations. Multiple profiles or cutting operations can often be incorporated into a single tool to reduce tool changes, machining time and production costs.
PCD cutting edges provide exceptional wear resistance and extended tool life when machining abrasive materials, including MDF, particleboard, laminates and other wood-based panels.
With over 40 years of industrial tooling experience, GDP Tooling works with customers from initial concept and tool design through production, sharpening and ongoing service.
Send us a dimensioned drawing, CAD file, sample part or details of your application and our tooling specialists will help develop the appropriate custom PCD solution.

Custom PCD Cutting Tools
Application-Specific Custom PCD Cutting Tools
Custom PCD cutting tools provide a solution for machining applications where standard tooling cannot efficiently achieve the required profile, finish, productivity or tool life.
Rather than adapting the application to an existing tool, GDP Tooling can engineer the tool around the material, machine, cutting operation and finished part requirements.
Custom PCD tooling can be designed for:
- Profile cutting and shaping
- Jointing and edge finishing
- Grooving and rabbeting
- Trimming and sizing
- Combination machining operations
- Specialty CNC applications
- High-volume production machining
Where practical, several machining operations can be incorporated into a single tool. Combination PCD tooling can reduce tool changes, cycle time and handling while improving repeatability and process consistency.
Designed Around Your Application
Tool design begins with understanding the complete machining process. Important considerations include the material being cut, required profile, machine and spindle configuration, feed rate, RPM, production volume, workholding and required surface finish.
GDP Tooling can develop a custom tool from a dimensioned drawing, CAD file, sample part or finished-profile requirements. A tool design drawing is provided for review and approval before manufacturing.
Why PCD?
Polycrystalline diamond offers exceptional wear resistance in abrasive materials and high-production applications. When properly matched to the application, PCD can provide significantly longer operating intervals between tool changes and sharpenings than conventional carbide tooling.
Custom PCD tools can also be professionally sharpened and serviced, extending their useful life and helping reduce overall tooling cost.
