4-Sided Carbide Inserts

GDP Tooling supplies precision 4-sided reversible solid carbide insert knives for CNC router bits, cutterheads, and industrial woodworking applications. Featuring four usable cutting edges with a 35° bevel on all sides, these rectangular replacement knives can be indexed to expose a fresh cutting edge as wear occurs, helping reduce tooling costs.

Available in single-hole and two-hole mounting configurations, our 4-sided carbide inserts are suitable for compatible cutting tools used in jointing, rebating, beveling, trimming, and other straight-cutting operations involving solid wood, engineered panels, composites, and thermoplastics. Additional sizes and configurations are available on request.

4-Sided Reversible Carbide Insert Knives for Industrial Woodworking

Four-sided carbide insert knives are precision-ground replacement cutting edges designed for use in compatible CNC router tooling, insert cutterheads, and industrial woodworking machinery.

Unlike two-sided inserts, these rectangular solid carbide knives feature four usable cutting edges. When one edge becomes worn, the insert can be indexed to expose another cutting edge, provided the cutter design permits it.

This indexable design helps maximize carbide utilization and reduce replacement tooling costs in repetitive production applications.

GDP Tooling supplies 4-sided reversible carbide insert knives in both single-hole and two-hole mounting configurations.

4-Sided Single-Hole Carbide Insert Knives

Our single-hole 4-sided carbide insert knives feature a central mounting hole and four precision-ground cutting edges.

The knives have a 35° cutting-edge bevel along both the long sides and the ends, making them suitable for compatible cutterheads and router tooling designed for four-edge inserts.

These replacement knives are used in machining applications such as jointing, rebating, beveling, trimming, and other straight-cutting operations.

Multiple insert dimensions are available to accommodate different cutter body configurations.

4-Sided Two-Hole Carbide Insert Knives

Our two-hole 4-sided carbide insert knives feature two mounting holes and four usable cutting edges, with a 35° bevel on all four sides.

The two-hole configuration is intended for cutter bodies designed with the corresponding locating and clamping arrangement.

When replacing these inserts, the mounting hole diameter, center-to-center spacing, overall dimensions, and cutting-edge geometry must match the original knife specifications.

Single-hole and two-hole inserts are not interchangeable unless expressly specified by the tooling manufacturer.

Applications for Four-Sided Carbide Inserts

GDP Tooling’s reversible carbide inserts are used in a range of industrial machining applications, including:

  • Jointing and straight-edge machining
  • Rebating and trimming
  • Beveling and edge preparation
  • CNC routing with compatible insert tooling
  • Machining solid wood and engineered wood panels
  • Cutting suitable composites and thermoplastics

The correct carbide grade, cutting geometry, and cutter body must be selected for the material and machining operation.

Advantages of Four Cutting Edges

Four-sided indexable carbide inserts offer several practical advantages.

More usable cutting edges: Four cutting edges can extend the usable service life of an insert compared with a similar two-edge design.

Reduced replacement costs: Indexing an insert to a fresh edge can reduce the frequency of purchasing replacement knives.

Consistent cutting geometry: Precision-ground replacement inserts help maintain repeatable cutting dimensions when correctly installed.

Simplified maintenance: Worn inserts can be replaced without replacing the complete cutterhead, provided the cutter body remains in good condition.

Actual insert life depends on the material being machined, cutting parameters, carbide grade, and condition of the tooling.

Selecting the Correct Replacement Carbide Insert

Although many carbide insert knives look nearly identical, small differences in dimensions or mounting geometry can affect tool performance and clamping security.

Before ordering, verify:

  • Insert length, width, and thickness
  • Single-hole or two-hole mounting configuration
  • Hole diameter and hole spacing
  • Cutting-edge bevel and corner geometry
  • Carbide grade and intended application
  • Original cutterhead or router bit specifications

Replacement inserts should always match the geometry required by the cutter body.

Additional Sizes & Custom Replacement Knives

GDP Tooling’s carbide insert knife program includes many additional sizes and configurations beyond those listed online.

We intentionally limit our online selection to commonly requested insert styles because similar-looking replacement knives are not always interchangeable.

If you cannot locate the required insert, contact GDP Tooling with the original knife dimensions, part number, cutterhead information, or a sample.

Our team can assist with identifying suitable standard replacements or evaluating custom-manufactured carbide inserts for specialized tooling.

All listed 4-sided carbide insert knives are sold in boxes of 10 pieces.
