Our Marietta, GA service facility boasts 6 high precision EDM machines that are dedicated 100% to servicing polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutting tools, including PCD hoggers, circular saw blades, groovers, premill cutters, profile tooling, drills and router/milling tools. Delivering superior service with fast turnaround, affordable pricing and reliable performance has been our mission since we installed our first PCD grinding machine in 1997.
Precision sharpening of PCD cutting tools requires a substantial investment in specialized CNC EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) equipment and a host of auxiliary equipment such as optical profile comparator, brazing equipment and more. It’s therefore no surprise that companies with PCD sharpening (regrinding) capabilities are few and far between. With the cost of PCD tools generally being substantial, much care must be exercised when they are handled. This goes for packing and shipping them for service as well as the return to customer facility. There is no room for error when PCD tools undergo the resharpening process to bring the cutting edge back to a state of perfection.
Sharpening a diamond tool is a time-consuming task. As an example, a 72 tooth PCD saw blade can take upwards of 3 hours to sharpen (excluding any service preparation work or adding relief angle following the service task). This explains why it is also an expensive refurbishing task.
