The new 6233 series Thermoplastics insert router tool, which utilizes a special polished carbide grade specifically designed for machining thermoplastics, acrylic glass (PMMA) , Makrolon, Polycarbonate (PC) Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) offers a substantial cost savings on tooling when machining these materials. The tool body is fabricated from a high-quality tool steel and uses 2 solid carbide insert knives (special polished carbide grade for thermoplastics) positioned on opposite shear angles to provide an exceptionally clean top and bottom surface finish. The same tool can also be used on wood and wood composites, however, using a different carbide grade insert knife. Standard execution of this tool is RH rotation. Ideal tool for grooving, jointing, sizing and rebating, the 6233 does not have a plunge point so ramp plunge or side entry into the material is required. For best possible performance, tool life and finish, we recommend the Thermoplastics Insert Router Bit be used with an HSK heat shrink tool holder obtaining most accurate concentricity.
For machining a high volume of thermoplastics, a diamond router bit should be considered as another option for longer tool life.
