A customer recently came to us with an unusual tooling need. He wanted Tooling for Flip-Flops to route out of foam on his CNC machine.
We decided an O-Flute solid carbide bit would probably do the trick and sure enough, it worked out well for him as you can see in the video below. Initially we were concerned that the light weight material might move on the table, but we selected a straight O-Flute tool geometry as opposed to an up shear or down shear tool. This prevented the material from being lifted by an upward cutting action of the bit during the routing process. We are grateful to Jim Haga for providing this little video clip. GDP | GUHDO loves a challenge regardless what you are cutting! Foam, hard or soft plastics, wood composites, fiberglass, melamine, cement fiberboard, phenolic, solid surface material or any other abrasive or difficult-to-machine material, we are up to it! Tooling for Flip-Flops presented just another opportunity to prove we are pretty good at selecting the right tool for the challenge! And the best part of it for Jim was, that if it hadn’t worked out, well….he could have just returned the tool for full credit because we stand behind our recommendations as much as we stand behind our products! Put us to the test when your next unusual tooling need comes up! Call today or email us!
